This is a feature that is preventing my friend and I from switching from TeamSpeak3/Mumble/Ventrilo fully. We actually run a TeamSpeak 3 server alongside Discord for this very reason. We want to be able to have a separate bind key to whisper a targeted person in the chat with voice. And we'd like to have a channel commander function like teamspeak.
Channel commander allows you to quickly resolve guild member disputes or speak about 'opsec' type plans to leadership or people allowed in channel commander. This lets you speak among each other without letting the rest of your guild hear you.
Please! This is all Discord is missing!
Agree! Need this!
I NEED THIS
add me i love those whispers
This is an absolute must have for Discord to be viable.
- Command channel (Keybind 1: Whole group - Keybind 2: Only command channel)
-- Linked Channel 1 (Keybind 1: Whole group - Keybind 2: Only child channel)
-- Linked Channel 2 (Hears only Command Channel - muted for all)
-- Linked Channel 3 (Different permissions, can hear Command and Linked Channel 1)

As player bases within discord grow, as their communities swell, the need to avoid chatter and deliver a message between channel leaders is vital.
Certain games such as EVE, Albion, and my favorite Planetside 2 would benefit immensely from this feature. All have massive battles where leaders are often caught in fire fights struggling to organize the hectic craze, especially with chattering in the party.
Using Discord, leaders don't have a chance to organize their warriors, mages, and priests to cover extra ground or let their grand plan flow to the ears of distant allies. This feature's primary use would be for breaking up large groups into more manageable parts.
This feature,"Channel Leader" exists in teamspeak at the current moment. By adding a role, or toggle, to join a "channel" of communication that serves as a whisper between others with the role, superseding the need to be in channel together.
With how amazing Discord is and its constant surprises I believe that together between community and dev, we can see this in the near future.
This should be all ready on Discord ....
This is very usefull when trying to management several groups at the same time, so the "Commanders" can talk with eachother without the need to change channels
Also for us, this is the reason our guild hasn't been able to make a complete move to Discord. We're forced to pay for a 100man TS server during GvG events
if you use the overlay you can switch channels using that, bro
It is important to know that having to alt tab in an online game is suicide, as such having a whisper function like that of Team Speak would be nice, because with the press of one key, the user would be able to speak and be heard by the other Voice chat room.
The whisper functionality is pretty much the only thing that Discord is REALLY missing out in.
This feature is the ONLY thing that makes me consider TeamSpeak better for larger gaming groups that need coordination, but can not have all the members in a single voice channel, because there would be too many people speaking and it would one become a mess.
But at the same time, simple placing the members at separate voice channels create the problem of either having to type in game, or having to alt tab into Discord in order to change the voice channel and speak to the other members.
As such, I suggest the implementation of some form of functionality similar to that of TeamSpeak's Whisper function.
I cannot stress how amazing this feature would be in larger chats for many games across many genres. Looking forward that one day it gets added.
I really love the features of Discord. I use it alongside Roll20.net to run Dungeon and Dragons campaigns. A whisper function would be incredibly useful. Currently my workaround is having a separate channel that I have to switch back and forth to.
The lack of this feature is the singular reason we still have a Teamspeak Server.
we need this like ... yesterday ... but it is never too late to add now
100% wish this was available right now
This would be a big help in large raids.
