If people insist on this then do what Slack does and allow people to choose what they personally see (or a server setting that forces a style).
I really don't want blobs, I much prefer the ones we have now
To anyone who commented and sees this -
the CPU usage:
- could be solved by only autoplaying the GIF avatar for their most recent message in each server. So if I am typing in say 4 servers, it only autoplays 1 in each, being the most recent message I sent.
And then it could only do it for the past 3 different people, so if 10 people type 1 message each and all have Nitro, it doesn't autoplay 10 gifs.
User Setting: Then make it a personal setting to never see them, always see them, or see them only on hover
Server Setting: And a server setting for the same things if a high density server wants to limit it and such.
Just give people an option to toggle this off so they don't see other's autoplay.
Have it off by default but if you see annoying flashy ones then just change your personal setting so you don't see them autoplay. Win win.

This is a great idea
Feedback noted. We’ve got some some plans that should improve this experience so that setting up your mic, and make sure it’s working with out blasting your friends is a breeze.
Maybe a toned down version? Status message would be nice, and maybe something like slots for your Steam, battle.net, and other game info? So like Steam says "My Steam" and people can click it to get taken to your steam profile so they can add you.
No need for the other stuff really
Give us an option to have the "X" out button close the program all the way, not minimize it to the tray.
One of the worst features of Skype, would be nice to have a choice for this.
